Controls are solid and responsive, level design is quite good (with a few notable exceptions having weird stage flow in my opinion), the dialogue and overal humor genuinely made me laugh quite often (Carol’s Battlepshere commercial cutscene is amazing), and the sprite work is beautiful.
Legitimately some of the best movement mechanics and physics I’ve ever experienced in a platformer. Learn to chain them together along with her Yoshi-like float that keeps your momentum, you’ll be flying across the stage at mach speed if you’re good enough.
My favorite example being Milla’s Shield Burst that’s so strong, it blasts you in the opposite direction you shoot it. The way you create speed and carry momentum in this game is so satisfying with your attacks generally having some sort of movement property. Amulets and Charms provide helpful effects, while Brave Stones make combat harder in exchange for bonus crystals. Change the rules with a multitude of equippable items. Collect and mix a rainbow of ingredients that boost her vitality in different ways, such as increasing her stock count, shield durability, attack power, speed, and more. Use it wisely it costs a stock and two more hits will knock you out again! Power up your heroine with customizable potions. A new Revival system gives you a chance to clinch victory during very close battles. If timing’s not your thing, an Auto Guard option in the Assist settings makes your character automatically guard against attacks if possible.
Once reached, the Battlesphere hosts a variety of challenges featuring enemies and bosses you’ve previously encountered, along with brand new surprises! Parry enemy attacks with the new Guard button. Test your fighting skills in the Battlesphere arena. Accessible after completing Adventure mode once, this streamlined navigation screen gives you quick access to stages and other important features without the need for travelling. Dive straight into the action with Classic Mode. Travel through a sprawling world map filled with treasures, landmarks, and over 100 unique animal NPCs to interact with and catalog.
